I absolutely love the new episode and will be posting my review of it sometime tonight or tomorrow. While I was watching it on iTunes today, I paused it at this random moment.
At first I was like, “Yeah okay, Bolin’s fighting the Lieutenant.” But wait.
What the hell is the Lieutenant doing?

Please stop comparing Mako to and/or calling him the “new Zuko”.
As an English major, I feel confident in saying they are two entirely different characters. For one thing, we can’t say anything about Mako for sure. We just met him! Until we see any possible character development, we can’t…
The one thing that bothers me is that, well, it unfortunately is quite easy to compare these two.
Slim face shape + firebender + general smarmyness = instant association
Albeit, it’s rather irksome though, and I hope Mako’s character is developed more so this isn’t so much of a problem. I’ve realized that the same problem can be said for Bolin who… has many of the facial expression and mannerisms as Sokka; thankfully that association isn’t as easy because Bolin seems much more competent, is a bender, and has a different nationality. (Not to mention he seems to be quite the lady killer… but then again Sokka had four girls crushing on him in the old series.)
tl;dr - I hope the characters are developed more, so it doesn’t appear that the writers/creators are simply being redundant and the fandom would just shut up and wait and see how everything plays out. Don’t like the series so far? Well don’t watch it. Stop complaining.
